Too Many Turtles tactical card game
Indie game about saving turtles? Too Many Turtles is a tactical board card game in which two players fight over the course of up to 3 rounds to build the biggest army of turtles that they are able to gather. The player with the most points at the end of the round wins and the game goes to the first player to win 2 out of 3 rounds. In our base set, you will find two pre-built decks of cards made to play against each other. On one side, you have Turtron: The Legendary Defender, a giant robotic turtle from outer space that has come to earth. He and his army of hatchlings are trying to combat the devastating effects mankind is having on turtles and the environment using a variety of effect cards like Shell Restoration and Environmental Clean Up.
Now some info about real world turtle issues. WildAid. WildAid is a large humanitarian nonprofit organization dedicated to helping all animals that are threatened by humans on a large scale. Their work with turtles is focused very directly on sea turtles, where 6 out of 7 species are in critical danger of extinction in the near future. Wild Aid has been working very closely with several government agencies in China to reduce the toll taken on turtle populations from Chinese consumers who use sea turtles for jewelry, instruments, and homeopathic medicines.
Effect cards affect turtles, some even infect, like The T-Virus. Turtles in our game don’t attack other turtles. We don’t advocate for turtle on turtle violence. We do, however, allow for a series of wacky, and sometimes serious effect cards to increase competitive gameplay. As it stands, we have 4 different types of Effect Cards in the game: Add/Subtract HP from turtles – These cards can help you edge out your opponent when the round ends and it’s time to calculate scores. Remove Turtles from play – These cards (Such as House Fire pictured far left) can remove turtles from the field of play, keeping your opponent stuck in place.Explore more details on Save the Turtles Card Game.
And now, without further ado, the stars of our show. Literally! Admit it, you’re here for the turtles. Don’t worry, so are we. Our turtles are split into three distinct types of turtles. Turtles are classified as either Land, Ocean, or Freshwater Turtles. Decks are built around a specific type of turtle so match your turtles up with the proper biome for an easy boost to your turtles HP. You may move and summon a turtle every turn, and on occasion, you might find yourself in a position to summon more than one turtle in the same turn. Keep an eye out for specific turtle effects so you know what your turtles can do!
The Idea: For those of you who don’t know us, we are three huge nerds who love gaming. We work normal jobs and we sometimes play DnD at 1 am because work was hard and we need to relax. One day, while we were at work, we had the thought that we could create games. An idea took hold, and it’s stuck with us like a shell to a turtle. Too Many Turtles is a fun and fast paced game about the world’s slowest reptiles! It wasn’t our first idea, and very possibly not our best idea, but it stuck. Almost 6 months later, we have an actual game and an incredible Non-Profit Partner in SEE Turtles.
